National Youth Service Day a big success

image Thank you, to all the volunteers that helped make National Youth Service Day a big success. East Atlanta Kids Club & SouthStar CDC collaborated to have a Brownwood Park Beautification & Festival for the youth in the community April 16th.

The morning started out with the Adult volunteers supervising the youth planting flowers, shoveling mulch, and soil in the two beds in front of the recreation center. As each child completed the process of their share planting each child made a card for the seniors in Branan Towers.

After the work was completed, the youth participated in a series of games: game balloon bursting - a foot racing event where each team member had to pop the balloon by sitting on it; a basketball shootout competition to shoot as many basketball in that time allotted. (The adult volunteers also tried this one) The last game was the sack race. The youth had there work, then they got to play, reaping the rewards of the hard work. The day was capped off with a hot dog lunch.

Nicole & Arthur would like to send a very special thanks to Jill Sieder, & Kevin Banks for allowing us the privilege to work alongside them with the East Atlanta Kids Club. As well we would like to thank the Square Hats Volunteers that came to be a part of this special event. Earl Daniels for lending a hand in getting those hands dirty in the planting of flowers. Very special thanks to Mount Ephraim for their donations. All the in-kind donations from all the businesses that gave. Last (he probably would not like to be put on the spot) thanks to our team leader Nick Smith.
